The way for the planned EU directive on single use plastics was only paved a few weeks ago. The new legislation envisages bans on a number of single use plastic products, e.g. plastic straws, as of 2021.

These straws are a good example for how fast the industry is capable of coming up with alternatives, especially with paper-based variations. They open up new potential markets for the adhesives industry and offer suppliers of beverage cartons advantages with regard to sustainability.

However, their growing market penetration has also meanwhile attracted the attention of investigation offices.
