As expected, the tinplate industry started 2024 with lower prices. Many of the suppliers of cans and closures surveyed by EUWID had also already reduced their prices accordingly.
However, some were still in negotiations with their customers in the second half of February, meaning that not all deals were available. The level of reductions often failed to meet expectations. Many in the packaging industry had hoped for more significant steps. The majority of can and closure producers had agreed on annual contracts with the supply industry in Europe.
Tinplate manufacturers had also offered their customers the option of concluding half-yearly contracts in advance. However, very few of the companies surveyed took up this option.
