Germany: packaging paper producers see no clear signs for the right way forward

Amidst the current uncertainty on the market, there is no one-size-fits-all solution to successfully weather the coming months, says one industry expert.

Producers are wondering whether to curtail production even more and for longer in order to bring the inventory situation back closer to a balance between supply and demand. Or, given the uncertainty about natural gas supplies, whether they should now produce as much paper as possible in order to build up stockpiles for future eventualities.

Moreover, paper manufacturers are trying to decide whether they need to give in to the price pressure from converters to ensure their warehouses do not overflow, or whether their own cost burden is so high that they are unable to make any concessions.
