Cartonboard manufacturers and converters are embroiled in yearly negotiations about terms for 2024 or, in some cases, have already wrapped up this process.
Conversations with market players indicate that buyers continue to have the upper hand and are pressing their advantage. Yearly negotiations in the folding boxboard (GC) business, in particular, are debating substantial price cuts – provided that prices have not already been in constant decline in the second half of this year.
Recycled cartonboard prices remain under pressure, too. As November drew to a close, many sources remarked that buyers had set out their plans to achieve additional concessions as soon as November or December at the latest rather than 1 January 2024.
