The hope that the end of the summer holiday season in Europe would herald a turnaround in the market for commodity plastics has not been confirmed. For September, demand was described as sluggish by almost all EUWID respondents. The demands of the converters and the customer markets they supply had not returned to a normal level. In addition, the rising commodity prices in many places had put the brakes on additional orders. In September, only those who really needed goods for their production had placed orders. Supply was described by many industry experts as sufficient to meet the reduced demand, despite ongoing production cutbacks on the part of monomer and polymer manufacturers. In the current EUWID research, there was little evidence of clearly noticeable supply surpluses, as in the previous months....
