There was a massive slump in demand in the German market for steel drums during the fourth quarter of 2022.
This was confirmed unanimously by the drum producers surveyed by EUWID. While orders were still running quite well into the third quarter, there was talk of a "dramatic turnaround" and a "catastrophic" last quarter of the year, with some producers suffering volume declines of up to 20% for the year as a whole compared to 2021. In some companies, short-time working was even reported in the last three months.
Overall, the production of steel drums in Germany fell significantly last year. This has also been confirmed by the German metal packaging association VMV.
