On the German market for sack kraft paper and paper sacks, there was still no sustained demand recovery in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Demand from the construction materials sector and chemical industry, in particular, remains sluggish, say both papermakers and sack producers. By comparison, business in the food segment is slightly better, but inflation is also weighing on sentiment here, market players tell EUWID.
Consequently, production capacities on both sides of the market could not be fully utilised. There were also occasional reports of paper machines being idled. Downward price pressure for sack kraft paper persisted in the fourth quarter of 2023. As in the preceding quarters, this pressure was stronger for brown grades than for white grades.
