Germany: folding carton production drops in a difficult economic environment

Looking back at 2023, the association of the German folding carton sector (FFI) sums up that the year was a difficult one for the industry.

While 2021 and 2022 had been two exceptionally good years for the sector, increasing inflation, declining demand, rising prices and destocking measures throughout the entire supply chain had burdened the German folding carton industry last year, explained Andreas Helbig, spokesman of the FFI executive board, and FFI secretary general Christian Schiffers on the occasion of a press conference in Frankfurt in mid-February.

As a result, the production volume of the association’s member companies, which represent around one third of the German market, dropped by 6.2 per cent to around 520,000 t in 2023.
