At the beginning of November, the price negotiations between the manufacturers of packaging and closures and their tinplate suppliers had not reached the point that had been hoped for in the last EUWID survey in August. Back then, the industry had still been expecting to have the contracts with suppliers for 2024 finalised by November at the latest – if not by October. However, some companies, especially the smaller and medium-sized ones, appeared to be a long way from this. In some cases, no talks have even taken place yet. “We are waiting for the big players in the industry to come to an agreement with the tinplate industry and for the white smoke to rise,” remarked one medium-sized can producer. But even representatives of large companies were unable to give the green light in calendar week 45....
