The German steel sheet packaging market:
Tight supply and rising prices in August

14 Sep 2021 −

In mid-August, the picture in the German market for steel sheet packaging resembled that of EUWID's last market survey from March: demand for drums remained vast, supply of raw materials tended to be tight and prices pointed north.

According to steel drum manufacturers, there had been a slight slowdown in incoming orders since the end of July/beginning of August. Most of the interviewees, however, attributed this to the holiday season, and there was no sign of a general slowdown in demand on the steel market.

The price for cold-rolled steel strip had meanwhile reached an all-time high in July. As to the passing on of rising prices for the upstream material, the packaging industry was still operating outside the usual quarterly adjustment in August.
